Founded in 2009 by Jon DeWaal, Liminal Space is a nonprofit that started from a desire to help individuals navigate life’s major transitions. Over the years, the practice has evolved to become a space of exploration, courage, creativity and transformation for hundreds of people.
Whether we like it or not, change happens; it is part of the human story. While some changes are small and seemingly insignificant, others are life altering and drastic. The way one handles a transition – our response to change – is important, often more so than the change itself. Why? Because who you choose to become during transition is up to you. We here at Liminal Space believe that transition is where all transformation takes place, if we learn how to wait and let it form us.
We teach that transition is a discipline. How we embrace transitions, and the transformative vulnerability they summon, is as much a discipline as prayer, scripture reading, fasting, or even diet and exercise. Contrary to common practice, transition isn’t an experience to which we apply those disciplines; it is one of those disciplines. Transitions draw us closer to God and more toward our intended design. It’s not something to be endured, but rather traversed with patience, diligence and expectation. We provide tools and resources that allow our clients to intentionally and courageously embrace their future.
Our clients study, learn and develop within transition to let it form them while having a guide helping them along the way. Offering services that are part coaching, part therapeutic counseling, part career counseling, and part spiritual direction, Liminal Space borrows from each discipline to create experiences that artfully build resilience and courage for the journey ahead.
The Services We Offer
The Individual Transition is the flagship experience of Liminal Space and forms the foundation for which all of our other offerings are built upon. While there are other experiences we offer at Liminal Space, we truly believe this is the best way to navigate a transition.
Started from a desire to offer an open environment within a group setting, PIER Groups allow members to share their transitions together. With a Liminal Guide, the group helps Provoke, Invite, Explore and Restore within community.
As Liminal Space’s latest endeavor, The PIER Learning Center’s vision is to provide a space of learning, exploration, and creativity all in one space. The space is a state-of-the-art meeting room with comfortable reading and research areas, creative space and a serving kitchen.
Together, these three offerings provide a comprehensive environment to discover how healthy transition can lead to life transformation.
